Juicing: substitute herbal tea for water for added health benefits

To add even more nutrients to your favorite juice, use an herbal or green tea instead of water.

You can brew your favorite tea bags (mine is Yogi Pomegranate Green Tea), or brew your favorite sun tea from tea bags or loose herbs. You can even brew green tea in your K-cup brewer or use a K-cup for loose tea.

My favorite herbal blend is: nettles, oatstraw, rosehips and hibiscus.  Sometimes I add K-cup brewed green tea to this blend.

Oatstraw:  aids in detoxification, boosts immune system (more benefits at   http://heal-thyself.ning.com/profiles/blogs/oatstraw-herbal-infusion-101

Nettles (stinging) – as a tea, helps with mucous congestion.  more benefits at http://www.motherearthnews.com/natural-health/stinging-nettle-benefits-zmaz81mazkin.aspx#axzz2dN69ySBz

Rosehips are very high in vitamin C.  This link is to an article on rosehips at WebMD:  http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-839-ROSE%20HIP.aspx?activeIngredientId=839&activeIngredientName=ROSE%20HIP

Hibiscus is a natural refrigerant, makes your body feel cooler in the summer.  This information is from my herbalism class at SWIHA (Southwest Institute of Healing Arts) in Tempe AZ.  Most of the links, including WebMD list cardiovascular benefits, so the refrigerant properties are just an added benefit.

As far as the many benefits of green tea, this is an article from WebMD entitled Health Benefits of Green Tea: Experts explain green tea’s potential benefits for everythinig from fighting cancer to helping your heart.   http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/health-benefits-of-green-tea

You can also customize to your own specific needs: I add kelp or seaweed for extra iodine.  More information is available  at the links above.

If you are interested in organic bulk herbs and do not have a local herbal shop, I have used www.mountainroseherbs.com for many years.   My local herb shop is Desert Sage Herbs in Chandler, AZ.   Also, my local Fry’s/Kroger just started carrying bulk herb teas, but although they are more inexpensive, they are much weaker than Teavana or some of the other more expensive tea shops.  Experiment for yourself, or post your own recommendations regarding juicing or herbal teas or blends below.  Please note: unrelated posts for business ventures will not be approved or posted.
