How long will a massage treatment last?
The average full-body massage treatment lasts from 50-60 minutes. In most salons or offices where appointments are booked “on the hour”, the actual time on the table is 50 minutes. This allows time for the client to get on and off the table, as well as a few minutes to discuss medical history or changes since the last appointment.
A half-hour appointment only is usually 30 minutes and generally focuses on one or two areas, such as neck and shoulders.
It is best to allow relaxation time after the massage for best results. It is also recommended to drink water both before and after the massage.
How often should I have a massage?
This varies from client to client, based on the client’s initial condition, finances available, and short-term versus long-term goals. Monthly massage is generally considered to be a maintenance schedule. If you just had your first massage and your condition is acute or post-injury, you will need to talk with your therapist to determine your short-term goals, i.e. fast track (once every 3-7 days) to start, then once a week, once every 2 weeks, once every 3 weeks, eventually a regular schedule of every 2-4 weeks, based on the client’s desires and finances.
